Your safety & rights

Safeguarding

How we keep the people we support safe from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The safety and wellbeing of the people we support comes first, always. We have a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, neglect and exploitation, and clear ways to prevent, recognise and respond to harm.

How we keep you safe

  • Careful recruitment

Reference and identity checks, and police checks for our team.

  • Worker screening

Aged care worker screening in line with requirements.

  • Ongoing training

Regular training in recognising and preventing abuse and neglect.

  • Supervision & culture

Support, supervision and a strong culture of speaking up.

  • Clear procedures

Defined steps for reporting and responding to concerns.

Recognising harm

Harm can take many forms. We help our team and families recognise the signs.

Physical

Any physical harm, rough handling or unlawful restraint.

Emotional

Intimidation, humiliation, isolation or controlling behaviour.

Financial

Misuse of a person's money, assets or property.

Sexual

Any non-consensual or inappropriate sexual behaviour.

Neglect

Failing to provide the care and support a person needs.

Restrictive practices

Restrictions used other than as a genuine, lawful last resort.

  2. 2

    Report

We report through the right channels without delay.

  3. 3

    Investigate and act

We look into it thoroughly and take action.

  4. 4

    Support those affected

  5. 5

    Learn and prevent

We review what happened to prevent it recurring.

We take our obligations seriously, including under the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), and work with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and, where relevant, the police.
